Terms and Conditions

Installation Work:

All Electrical installation work will comply with BS7671:2022 and any amendments in force at the time of the works.

All Electrical installation work will comply with applicable Building Regulations in force at the time of the works.

Electrical Installation and Minor Works certificates and Building Regulations notifications issued by Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd cover only those works installed by Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd.

Where work is to extend or modify existing circuits, costs quoted or estimated will assume that existing circuits are safe and in adequate condition. Any works required to bring these circuits up to standard will be at an additional cost.

Chases to walls will be left un-filled. Final finishing of skim coat plaster and final decoration is excluded, unless otherwise agreed.

It is the responsibility of the client to move or protect all personal property, equipment and items which may be damaged or effected by dust. Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd. Will not be held responsible for any damages and/or dust caused during the agreed works being carried out. A basic clean will be conducted following works; however, this does not constitute a full domestic clean.

New Consumer Units:

Installation of new consumer units (fuse board) is subject to the whole installation being tested to ensure it is safe to be connected to a new consumer unit. This is a legal requirement under Part P Building Regulations.

Any faults found during the above testing which are deemed unsafe, must be rectified prior to that circuit being reconnected to any new consumer unit. Any costs for such work will incur additional costs. Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd will bring such issues to the client’s attention as soon as is practical during works.

In particular it may be necessary to install new main services bonding to water, gas or oil supplies. Where there is no means of isolating the meter tails (i.e. the cables that connect between the Electricity Suppliers and the fuse board or distribution board), then the client must arrange with their supplier to have an isolator fitted.

Exclusions:

Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd will perform basic moving of items to create access, the clearing and/or moving of furniture and other large items/valuable equipment blocking access to work areas are the responsibility of the client.

Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd will try and ensure that electrical items are plugged back in before leaving the premises, we will not be held responsible for any losses due to any electrical item not being plugged back in and/or switched on.

Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd will not be responsible for the removal and disposal of any waste and packaging as part of the service. Any waste materials/packaging etc will be collected, bagged and left on site in a tidy manner as part of the cleaning part of the service at the end of the job. However, the client may arrange with us to remove and dispose of any waste as an additional service. An enquiry must be raised prior to the work commencing, and the service will be quoted for separately from the electrical works to be completed.

Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd will endeavour to arrive at the agreed time; however, the time given is an estimate only (especially where other jobs are carried out that day, or where travel delays, parts delivery/collection, third-party or other delays may be expected) and therefore the client must be mindful of the requirement for a reasonable degree of flexibility in regard to timings. Similarly, the estimated finishing time may be subject to a wide variety of unforeseen delays. Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd shall not be responsible for any inconvenience caused by an earlier or later than expected finish time.

Pricing:

Quoted and estimated costs assume continuous and unhindered access to the site by prior arrangement with the client.

Unless stated otherwise, the costs quoted or estimated assume standard working hours between 08:00hrs – 17:00hrs Monday to Friday inclusive. Work required by the client outside these hours may attract premium rates. Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd will inform you if this applies.

Ad hoc work completed outside of the scope of any quote or estimate at the time of the work taking place will incur an additional charge in respect of time and materials used. Depending on the nature of the ad hoc work requested, it may be necessary to schedule a different time to return to carry out the work. The Contracts Manager will assess the availability of materials and the availability of time within the schedule of the business to agree a mutually beneficial time with the client for the additional ad hoc work to take place.

Quotes and estimates are valid for 30 days from the date of the quote.

All visits have a minimum job fee of £69.00+VAT. If work is split into smaller visits, then the minimum charge for each visit will be £69.00+VAT. Therefore, we encourage multiple low-cost jobs to be done on the same visit.

Where work is split across more than one address (or individual flat/apartment/studio etc) the minimum charge will apply per each address. For example, two or more apartments having an Electrical Inspection in same building will each incur the minimum job fee.

Risk and Title of Goods:

The risk in all goods supplied shall pass to the client upon delivery.

All goods supplied shall remain the property of Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd until all sums due have been paid in full by the client; at which point the ownership of all goods supplied will transfer to the client.

Warranty:

Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd warrants its installation work to be defect free for a period of twelve months from the invoice date. Cover does not extend to goods supplied by others, physical damage, wilful misuse or instances where the installation has been altered or tampered with by third parties. The warranty also excludes fair wear and tear, lamps, fuses, batteries or other such consumable items. This does not affect your rights to seek remedy under the Consumer Rights Act 2015

Any damage to the electrical installation by third parties shall remain the responsibility of the client. Any rectification costs must be paid by the client. Recovery of such costs from any third party shall be the client’s responsibility.

Payment:

Payment in full should be made on completion of the specified works.

Where projects involve separate first and second fix works, or are more than 1 day in duration, staged invoices may be raised.

Payment is accepted by bank transfer, cheque or debit/credit card.

In the event of any non-payment, Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd reserves the right to withhold any certificates for work carried out until such payments are made.

Late payments will be passed on to a debt collection company. If this occurs then you will also be liable to pay interest charges, plus the debt collection companies charges and any legal fees incurred (for example solicitor’s letters and courts fees)

Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd reserves the right to stop or postpone work if payment is not made on time and/or the credit limit is exceeded. This also includes cancellation or postponement if a deposit is not paid and cleared into our account in time.

Cancellations/Postponements:

Any work cancelled or postponed with less than 2 full working days’ notice (excluding bank holidays, public holidays and weekends), will incur a £69.00 +VAT cancellation fee. Additionally, any restocking fees passed on to us from our suppliers will be charged to the client. This includes any parts which are not refundable by our suppliers (for example custom parts, or those that are excluded in the suppliers returns policy). These charges must be paid upon informing us of the cancellation or postponement. Please note that arriving at a job where nobody is present at the specified time, will also be classed as a cancellation.

Postponement shall mean any delay of more than half an hour. This applies to delays caused by no access to property (regardless of the reason) and any delays caused by either the customer or any third parties.

Where work has to be postponed due to customer supplied parts not being suitable for the intended use, or not physically able to be installed, then this too shall be classed as a postponement.

It shall be the responsibility of the client to ensure that any third-party holding keys which require collecting/returning are available at the time of both collections and returning. In the case of not being able to get keys (or return them) at the expected times, this will be classed as a delay or cancellation as appropriate, and the necessary charges shall apply. Similarly, the customer shall be liable for any change in availability by the keyholder(s) and shall be responsible for notifying Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd of any such changes.

Additional Requirements/Extra Works:

If any additional work is requested by the client, or found to be necessary, then it will be separately quoted or estimated and treated as a separate job. Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd will then endeavour to complete the additional work at the next convenient date for both parties in line with the schedule of other works.

Agreement with these Terms and Conditions:

Booking an appointment with Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd shall mean that the client agrees with the price and details of the quote or estimate received and also agrees to these terms and conditions.

These terms and conditions are also available on www.cobbelectrical.co.uk In the event that the booking was made verbally (for example over the phone, usually applying to last minute jobs carried out the same day), then these terms and conditions will also apply.

Cobb Electrical (Sussex) Ltd reserves the right to change these terms and conditions from time to time, and therefore it is recommended that you print out a copy of these terms and conditions as proof of what was applicable at the time of booking your appointment.
